Superman may wear a cape, but in Canyon Lake, Larry Garland carries the microphone.
Charisma, presence, and unwavering commitment define Larry, yet what many may not see is the extraordinary scope of what he does behind the scenes. Music has always been part of his life, and since joining the Canyon Lake Choraleers in the fall of 2013, he has become one of its driving forces.
As president, he serves our community both on stage and behind the curtain, often carrying responsibilities that would normally require an entire team.
Audiences know him as the confident master of ceremonies and featured vocalist. What they may not realize is that he also coordinates ticket sales and programs and personally secures the advertising in our printed programs—revenue that helps make our concerts possible—while creating music videos, managing audio setup, positioning microphones, syncing music tracks, and integrating video media to elevate each performance beyond a traditional choir performance.
Those program advertisements are not a small detail; they are essential. Without them, we simply could not afford to produce the quality shows our community has come to expect. Larry takes on this critical task himself, ensuring that our efforts to continue performing in Canyon Lake remain financially possible.
He operates lighting systems, installs sound equipment, and oversees countless technical details that make every production seamless, remaining calm under pressure no matter what arises. His technical leadership ensures that each Choraleers concert is not only musically strong but audibly and visually memorable.
His service extends further through his involvement with the Veterans Day Committee, helping enhance the Choraleers’ participation in that important annual community event. The Canyon Lake POA Board of Directors has formally recognized him for his many contributions.
And for those who frequent the Canyon Lake Lodge, his superb karaoke skills are equally legendary, proving that whether it is a formal concert or a casual evening at the mic, Larry knows how to command a stage.
Downtime is not a concept Larry embraces. He continues to perform at community events such as the Annual Day of Prayer and serves the Canyon Lake community in numerous capacities, bringing an energy and drive that rivals men half his age. He would simply say he is doing what he loves.
Behind this remarkable leader stands his devoted wife, Linda. A steady and gracious presence, she is the quiet strength and trusted partner who helps make it all possible. Together, Larry and Linda exemplify what it means to invest wholeheartedly in a community. Their passion for the Choraleers is matched only by their love for Canyon Lake, a place they proudly call home.
