The SoZo Jazz Band is comprised of accomplished local musicians from the Inland Empire region of Southern California. Since its formation in 2008, the ensemble has performed at a wide range of venues, earning a strong reputation for dynamic, polished performances that span classic and contemporary jazz styles.

SoZo Jazz Band is led by Robert J. Knopp, Professor of Music at California State University, San Bernardino and an accomplished saxophonist. Dr. Knopp holds a Bachelor of Music from Roosevelt University, a Master of Music from Northern Illinois University, and a Doctor of Arts from the University of Northern Colorado. His career reflects a long-standing commitment to musical excellence, education, and community engagement.

The SoZo Jazz Band maintains an ongoing collaborative partnership with the Canyon Lake Choraleers, bringing together the expressive power of choral music with the energy and sophistication of a professional jazz ensemble. These collaborations highlight the versatility of both groups and create performances that are rich in texture, style, and musical depth.

Under Dr. Knopp’s direction, SoZo Jazz Band works closely with the Choraleers and their director Lorilee Bajema to craft cohesive, engaging concert experiences. This partnership reflects a shared dedication to high-quality live music, artistic collaboration, and strengthening the cultural life of the community.
